Applications for potable water treatment
Water purification is a physical-chemical process that consists in removing contaminants from raw water, in order to obtain water suitable for normal domestic consumption, irrigation of fields or industrial uses (e.g. use by food establishments).
Art. 80 of the Legislative Decree 152/2006 (Environmental regulations) establishes that surface fresh waters intended to be purified, must be classified in A1, A2, A3 categories, according to their physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics. Category A1 waters are the best, while category A3 waters are the worst and require stricter and more invasive treatments. Depending on their category, surface waters must be treated as specified below:
Category A1: simple physical treatment and disinfection
Category A2: normal physical and chemical treatment and disinfection
Category A3: strict physical and chemical treatment, refinement and disinfection
